Our History
The journey began in 2004 when an Australian Christian lady working with the Lausanne Committee crossed paths with a young South Asian pastor who expressed the need of a tube well for a group of new Christians who were refused the use of the local well and were having to walk one and a half kilometers to get water. When she returned the money needed was raised by her local church. The Pastor then asked her to come to South Asia and run some Women’s Conferences. The Pastor also had a passion to reach his people with the gospel and had a vision to plant many churches. Whilst she was there, he introduced her to 10 young men who had been to Missionary Training College and needed support to establish these churches in unreached communities.
On returning to Australia she challenged her church to support the ten pastors and so began the enabling of Pastors in South Asia. Since then she has visited South Asia annually to run a Women’s Conference in a major city and travels around the country with the Senior Pastor to visit as many of the churches as possible. It has been moving to see all the churches grow. Interest and support for the work has grown over the years and, in addition to Pastor support, it now includes provision of schools, building multi-purpose church buildings, support of an orphanage, supplying blankets in areas that get extremely cold and meeting other medical needs.
In 2006 another small group of Australian Christians had a vision for God using their experience and commitment in their senior years, as he did with the Old Testament hero Caleb. They formed a company, The Caleb Group (Asia Pacific) Pty Ltd and looked for God’s call. Through mutual friendships and a common passion to spread the Good News, He answered clearly. So, the Caleb Group came together with those who had been supporting the South Asian ministry for many years creating the Caleb Foundation to grow the work and expand the South Asian ministry formalizing the commitment of Australian Christians and Churches to South Asia.
